Leader of the Government in the Senate Minister for Defence Ms Margaret Hutton [date stamped:] 16 September 2005 Dear Ms Hutton Thank you for your letter of 21 June 2005 concerning recent statements made in regard to SIEV-X. A full account of Defence's knowledge of the events surrounding the tragic loss of the vessel known as SIEV-X on 19 October 2001 has been provided to the Senate Inquiry into a Certain Maritime Incident, and the findings of that inquiry are a matter of public record. Defence has not conducted any subsequent investigations and the findings of the report reflect the extent of information available to Defence.
