Smuggler of Human Beings ArrestedTempoCHETA NILAWATY Thursday, 10 July, 2008 | 13:25 WIB TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Director General for Immigration affairs at the Justice and Human Rights Department arrested Hadi Ahmadi, on Sunday, 29 June at 4pm at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Hadi is a citizen of Iran suspected for smuggling human beings across countries. “Hadi was caught by an immigration officer after landing at Soekarno-Hatta airport on Qatar Airways, flight number QR 628,” said Investigative Director at the Justice and Human Rights Department, Syaiful Rahman yesterday. He explained that they arrested him after receiving Interpol red-notice No. A-2011/9-2007 dated September 27, 2007. According to the initial examination, Hadi is an interpol fugitive sending four boats with 903 people to Australia during 1999-2001. “Someone received these people in Australia,” said Syaiful. It is reported that Hadi had been in Indonesia in 2001 as a citizen of Iraq. He was deported for breaking the immigration rules. At that time, he used the name of Hadi Ali Asghar el-Ahmadi. He now changed his citizenship to Iranian. His arrival in Indonesia this time was to transit from Dubai to Australia. Hadi used an Iranian passport No. R12449560 with a tourist visa No. 211. He changed his physical looks by shaving his mustache and dying his hair black. “Before arresting him, an immigration officer tried to call him Asghar. He stopped and looked right away although he claimed his name was Hadi Ahmadi,” said Syaiful Rahman. Hadi is imprisoned at Indonesian police headquarters. Syaiful suspects Hadi had a network in Indonesia.
