Keep Up The Pressure On John Howard On SIEVX
27 November 2002
More than one hundred and fifty people, including activists from the refugee movement in Queensland, attended the Brisbane Powerhouse, Visy Theatre last night to hear Tony Kevin, Senator Andrew Bartlett and Senator Claire Moore speak on the SIEVX Affair.
The mood of the meeting was very supportive and a spirit of cooperation was evident between all three speakers.
Senator Bartlett made a public committment that he would try to look at the possibility of a motion being moved in the Senate in the last two weeks of Parliament calling for a judicial inquiry into SIEVX and the people smuggling disruption program in Indonesia and he will be talking with his non-government Senate colleagues about this before Parliament sits again on 2 December.
Senator Moore expressed general support for the seriousness of the issue. Senator Faulkner's role was commended universally at the meeting.
So the message that came through from the meeting is - Keep up the pressure on John Howard on SIEVX! Write, fax or phone the non-government senators asking for their support for a judicial inquiry into SIEVX and the PSDP.
